Premium SMS (PSMS) also known as Reverse Billed Text Messaging allows businesses to generate revenue by selling digital content, financial information or competition entries.
Shortcodes, such as 86300, are the mechanism by which users are charged for services sent to their mobile phone. Different price points e.g. 50p, £1 or £1.50 per reverse billed message are fixed to different shortcodes. Different PSMS applications can also share a shortcode using unique KeyWords. For example, “Text WEATHER followed by your postcode to 23456 – texts cost 50p plus your normal text rate”.
